As we all await the return of sports, it can be a good time to do a bit of research as to how to make great sports picks. Today we are going to focus on basketball and some tips that we will share with you. Here are five secret bits of advice about making your next basketball picks . . .
Watch Out For Your Favorites
Everybody has their favorites. It could be the team from your home town, or the underdogs or the state where you went to college. Regardless of what it is, there is some emotional connection to your favorite team. This emotional connection will cloud your vision when it comes to making a good pick. There are times that your favorite team will be the correct pick, but you have to be very careful to separate your head from your heart when it comes to making an excellent basketball pick.
Take a great look at the schedule of the team before making any final decisions. Have they been traveling too much? Too many games in a row? Have they been off for a while? Scheduling will affect players and their abilities. If a team has been traveling all over the country, they will likely be tired from travel. If a team is playing four games in a row, there is no question that fatigue will start to set in. Look for perfect periods in a schedule where the schedule is just enough for the players to handle and stay sharp.
Indeed, point scoring is essential, but we are talking about breaking this down to two-pointers and three-pointers. You want to pick a team that has a higher percentage of two pointers than three-pointers. Three-pointers are great for scoring, but they are not always reliable. Just because a team was able to nail every three-pointer one game does not at all mean they will be able to do the same thing in the next game.
At Home Underdogs
Look for games where the home team is an underdog. There is no question that organizations get more pumped up at home. The play is usually cleaner, more focused, and driven for a win. Teams that have a large at home spread and are the underdogs are more likely to cover that spread. The extra motivation not to lose at home is enough to get the players excited enough to make you a bit of extra money.
Our last tip will take a bit of time and patience, but it can be a great way to make some great picks. Before looking at the lines on a game, do your due diligence. Research the players, the location, the records, etc. and try to come up with your own line on the game. Then see what the experts have picked and how close you compare. If your opinion is close to theirs, then maybe you are all onto something. If, however, your line is the polar opposite, try to think of why that may be. Are you missing something, did they miss something, or is this not a great pick.
Making great basketball picks takes some time and some self-education, but we are always here to help.
